Introduction to FuMA - Tech FAA - 3 Non - Reinforced Membrane Series at Scientific Materials Station

  1. Fumasep FAA - 3 - 20: It is a non - reinforced Anion Exchange Membrane (AEM), featuring extremely low resistance, high selectivity, and high stability in both acidic and alkaline pH environments. The polymer backbone of this membrane is based on a proprietary hydrocarbon resin. This membrane can be used in alkaline fuel cells that do not contain KOH or have a low KOH concentration. It can also be applied in other electrochemical applications that require the transfer of anions (such as Cl⁻, Br⁻, sulfates, etc.). The ion membrane is a brown thin foil on a backing foil (colorless rigid PET foil). Carefully separate the membrane (brown) from the backing foil. The membrane is delivered in a dry form.
  2. Fumasep FAA - 3 - 30: It is a non - reinforced Anion Exchange Membrane, with extremely low resistance, high mechanical properties, high selectivity, and high stability in both acidic and alkaline pH environments. The polymer backbone of this membrane is based on a proprietary hydrocarbon resin. This membrane can be used in organic redox flow applications or organometallic charged carriers. The ion membrane is a brown thin foil on a backing foil (colorless rigid PET foil). Carefully separate the membrane (brown) from the backing foil. The membrane is delivered in a dry form.

  1. Fumasep FAA - 3 - 50: A non - reinforced Anion Exchange Membrane (AEM), which has extremely low resistance, high selectivity, and high stability in both acidic and alkaline pH environments. The polymer backbone of this membrane is based on a proprietary hydrocarbon resin. This membrane is used for electrodialysis in applications such as demineralization, desalination, and capacitive deionization. It can also be used in standard alkaline fuel cells and electrolyzer applications with weakly alkaline solutions (1 - 2 M). The ion membrane is a brown thin foil on a backing foil (colorless rigid PET foil). Carefully separate the membrane (brown) from the backing foil. The membrane is delivered in a dry form.
  2. Fumapem FAA - 3 - 50: A non - reinforced Anion Exchange Membrane (AEM), which has extremely low resistance, high selectivity, and high stability in both acidic and alkaline pH environments. The polymer backbone of this membrane is based on a proprietary hydrocarbon resin. This membrane can be used in alkaline fuel cells that do not contain KOH or have a low KOH concentration. The ion membrane is a brown thin foil on a backing foil (colorless rigid PET foil). Carefully separate the membrane (brown) from the backing foil. The membrane is delivered in a dry form.

Introduction to FuMA - Tech FAA - 3 Mechanically Reinforced Membrane Series

  1. Fumasep FAA - 3 - PE - 30: An anion - exchange membrane - PE reinforced type, which has extremely low resistance, high mechanical properties, high selectivity, and high stability in both acidic and alkaline pH environments.
  2. Fumapem FAA - 3 - PE - 30: An anion - exchange membrane - PE reinforced type, which has extremely low resistance, high mechanical properties, high selectivity, and high stability in both acidic and alkaline pH environments. The polymer backbone of this membrane is based on a proprietary hydrocarbon resin. This membrane can be used in alkaline fuel cells that do not contain KOH or have a low KOH concentration. The membrane is a thin brown, slightly opaque foil on a backing foil (colorless rigid PET foil). Carefully separate the membrane from the backing layer. The membrane is delivered in a dry form.
  3. Fumasep FAA - 3 - PK - 75: A PK - reinforced anion - exchange membrane with a thickness of 75 μm, which has extremely low resistance, high mechanical properties, high selectivity, and high stability in both acidic and alkaline pH environments. The polymer backbone of this membrane is based on a proprietary hydrocarbon resin. This membrane can be used for electro - deionization, electrodialysis for demineralization, alkaline water electrolysis at pH 9 - 12 and temperatures below 50 °C, seawater desalination, etc. The ion membrane is a brown foil without a backing membrane. The membrane is delivered in a dry form.

  1. Fumasep FAA - 3 - PK - 130: A PK - reinforced anion - exchange membrane with a thickness of 130 μm. It has extremely low resistance, high mechanical properties, high selectivity, and high stability in both acidic and alkaline pH environments. Note: Fumapem is mainly designed for proton - exchange membrane fuel cell applications, while Fumasep is designed for other types of fuel cells. Currently, Fumapem anion - exchange membranes have been fully discontinued, and users can choose the corresponding Fumasep models as replacements. For example, users can choose Fumasep FAA - 3 - 50 to replace Fumapem FAA - 3 - 50.

Note: FuMA - Tech membranes are highly sensitive to differences in humidity and moisture content. Therefore, the membranes may vary from the original cut size by ±0.5 cm. Also due to this sensitivity, the manufacturer anticipates the formation of wrinkles, but according to the manufacturer, soaking the membrane in deionized water will restore the membrane to its full - size flat state.

Handling, Storage and Pretreatment of FuMA - Tech FAA - 3 Membranes

Membrane Handling

Keep the membrane packaging closed/sealed when not in use. Unsealed membranes are for immediate use only and should be processed right after opening. Store, handle and process the membranes in clean, dust - free areas. When cutting the membranes, use only new and sharp knives or blades.

Always wear protective gloves when handling the membranes. Handle them gently and avoid piercing, wrinkling or scratching the membranes, as this may cause leakage. All surfaces that may come into contact with the membranes during inspection, storage, pretreatment and installation must be free of sharp edges or angles.

Dry Form: Can be stored long - term (> 12 months) in a dry state (in a sealed container).

Wet Form: Can be stored for medium - to - short - term (from a few hours to several weeks) in an unsealed container in a 0.5 - 1.5 wt% NaCl solution or a similar neutral pH electrolyte. For long - term storage, it is recommended to use a sealed container with the above - mentioned electrolyte and 1 - 3 wt% sodium sulfite (Na₂SO₃) to avoid biological contamination.

Pretreatment

The membranes are delivered in bromide form and dry form. Depending on the application and battery design, they can be assembled dry (without pretreatment) or wet. Before wet - assembly, place the membrane between stable meshes/gaskets in a NaCl solution (to avoid curling) - for example, soak in a 0.5 M NaCl solution at T = 25 °C for 72 hours, with multiple solution exchanges.

Additional adjustment can be made with 0.1 M KOH at room temperature according to experimental requirements. Do not let the membrane dry out, as micro - cracks may occur during the shrinking process.
